Sibillana is a short supply chain, few companies of this kind exist in Italy, all the fiber with which we make the yarns comes from Sopravissane sheep from farms in central Italy. Each farm forming part of the supply chain ensures high standards of well-being and excellent quality of life for the animals. All members of the supply chain practice extensive farming, few animals and a life of grazing during the day and resting indoors at night. Each flock is protected by guardian dogs to protect against predation by the Wolf, a legitimate inhabitant of the Sibillini Mountains with whom we want to continue to coexist. Sibillana is the wolf-friendly zero kilometer yarn!
The Sopravissana sheep
The Sopravissana sheep is an endangered breed, originally from the province of Macerata, in the Marche region, today raised mainly along the Apennine ridge between Marche, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo. It is one of the Italian "Merino-derived" breeds, born from the cross between local Marche sheep (of the Vissana breed) and French Merino rams of the Rambouillet breed, donated by the people of France to the Pope, and distributed in the then papal farms during the 18th century. century.

A low impact on the environment
Sibillana is a niche product, quantities are limited and each batch is processed individually in order to allow the traceability of each skein. In the spinning plant located in Montefortino (Fm), Marche Region, it is possible to process very small batches in purity. On the back of each skein, in addition to the technical characteristics of the yarn, there is evidence of the farm from which the fiber comes. The processing cycle, from the freshly shorn fleece to spinning, occurs with a very low environmental impact, the resources used come from renewable sources and the packaging is also made entirely of recycled paper.
The beauty of imperfections
In all Sibillana products it is possible to find small vegetal fragments, at first glance they might appear as a defect, in reality, according to our vision of things, it is an advantage. In our plant each fleece cleaning phase has a very low environmental impact. No chemical additives are used in the washing phase and the elimination of straw or sack residue occurs solely through a mechanical and manual process. The presence of straw is therefore synonymous with respect for the environment and therefore, in our way of seeing it, with quality!
